New Year’s Eve is the most important festivity in the Chinese lunar calendar, and is still one of the few strongholds of Chinese tradition, which is struggling up against new values. Every year, hundreds of millions of migrant workers leave the huge cities and go back to their home in the country, causing mayhem in the transport system. For most of them, the cheapest way to travel is by train. “Last train home” examines both the fate of the protagonists and the social costs that the whole nation has to pay in its effort to become the leading economic world power.
