In the years following the 2015 Paris attacks, in France the state of emergency has been extended several times. Police were granted powers similar to those in wartime, and Muslim citizens were not the only people in France to be targeted. As jurist Mireille Delmas-Marty states, “A society of fear is being forged. It seems almost irreversible.” Filmmaker Joseph Paris filmed dozens of hours of interviews and gathered a lot of material from the French media to make an extraordinary visual essay on the decline of civil liberties in the country.
