The labour market is changing and the gig economy turnover, based on occasional work, is growing more and more. The Gig is Up sheds light on the workers’ lives who were deceived by the promise of flexible hours and independence, but subject to dangerous working conditions, salary modifications without notice, high risk of dismissal. Mitchell works in Lagos in the AI sector for Amazon; Annette is a Californian Uber driver; Leila is a home delivery rider in Paris. Their stories are spaced out by journalists’, experts’ and technology businessmen’ analyses, who explain clearly and in detail how the gig economy works and how immigrant workers are one of its first victims.
