Maria travels from Honduras, where she had to leave her husband and children, and just like other thousands of Central Americans she hopes to reach the United States border. This documentary film tells her story, showing how crossing Mexico could prove to be an experience full of horrors.
The train is the main means of transport for this journey, but there is a very high risk of falling off the wagons or being mugged by the criminal gangs of Mara, bandits ready for any kind of brutality, against whom the Mexican authorities seem to be doing nothing. Even the police could be a menace for the migrants, who get robbed and mistreated by the policemen. Some of them make it, but many travellers get sent back to their home country, while some others have disappeared in thin air.
