CHICAGO BLOCK, STORIES FROM THE ELEVATOR

On the left bank of the Sheldt river there is a skyscraper that dominates the whole area. Antwerp’s inhabitants have renamed it “Chicago block”, and consider it a place to stay away from. Inside its 26 floors, the poor Belgians live alongside immigrants of 35 different nationalities. A camera installed inside the elevator of this concrete beehive shows the transit of the tenants. Some of them are filmed in their homes, with their more or less serious problems: stories of dignity and willpower that go far beyond the place where they take place.
